Salt Painting

Magic Crystals
2 cups water
2 cups Epsom salts
food coloring (optional)
In a saucepan, combine the water and Epson salts, and bring to a boil. Stir the mixture and allow to cool. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring. Have students paint with this mixture on construction paper. The paint will dry to create clear or colored crystals.

White glue in bottle
Watercolor paint box with brush
Jar of water
Paper
Salt in spout container
Empty cup
"Draw" with white glue from bottle Pour salt on glue drawing Pour extra salt from drawing into a cup to be reused Paint salt and glue with watercolor paint, using a minimum or water Rinse brush between colors Allow to dry
Salt paint
1/8 cup liquid starch
1/8 cup water
1 T. Tempera or 2 squirts of food coloring ½ cup salt
Paper plate, matte board, or cardboard
Brushes
Mix and apply to background with a brush Keep stirring mixture as you work Painting will crystallize as it dries
Salt paint
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. liquid starch
few drops of tempera paint
Mix the ingredients together. The salt gives a frosted appearance to the paint.
