Collected Poems and Short Stories``Hug O' War'' ``I'd rather play at hug o' war, Where everyone hugs Instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles And rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, And everyone grins, And everyone cuddles, And everyone wins.'' from ``Where the Sidewalk Ends,'' by Shel Silverstein >"God, Are You Real?" > - Author Unknown - > >The man whispered, "God, speak to me." >And a meadowlark sang. >The man did not hear. >So the man yelled, "God, speak to me." >And the thunder rolled across the sky, >But the man did not listen. >The man looked around and said, "God, let me see you." >And a star shone brightly. >But the man did not notice. >And the man shouted, "God, show me a miracle." >And a life was born, >But the man did not know. >So the man cried out in despair, >"Touch me God, and let me know you are here." >Whereupon God reached down and touched the man. >But the man brushed the butterfly away. >AND WALKED AWAY UNKNOWINGLY > SpringBirds singingButterflies dancing Grass growing Flowers blooming People sunning Gardeners planting Puppies playing Bubblebees gathering Gentle breeze blowing Spring by Rebecca Count That Day LostIf you sit down at set of sunAnd count the acts that you have done, And, counting, find One self-denying deed, one word That eased the heart of him who heard, One glance most kind That fell like sunshine where it went-- Then you may count that day well spent But if, through all the livelong day, You've cheered no heart, by yea or nay-- If, through it all You've nothing done that you can trace That brought sunshine to one face-- No act most small That helped some soul and nothing cost-- Then count that day as worse that lost. George Eliot A New Year's PrayerDear Lord, please give me...A few friends who understand me and yet remain my friends. A work to do which has real value, without which the world would feel the poorer... A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed An understanding heart... A sense of humor. Time for quiet, silent meditation, A feeling of the presence of God. And the patience to wait for the coming of these things, with the wisdom to know them when they come. W.R. Hunt ~FAITH ~JOY ~HOPE ~HARMONY~~CHARITY ~GRACE ~GOODNESS~ God gives each of us the ability to be angels on earth... to touch lives, lighten hearts and inspire souls. By practicing simple acts of Faith, Joy, Hope, Harmony, Charity, Grace and Goodness, we can each be more like angels as we journey through this world. God bless the angel in you! poem borrowed from Donna's Angel Page
Reach for the stars Keep your halo polished Share your favorite things with others Plant a garden for the butterflies Say something nice to someone everyday Be patient with those who don't fly as fast as you do Talk to the plants to help them grow Always tell the truth Think good thoughts Sprinkle a little stardust wherever you go -Author Unknown What difference can you make? For me, the best story I have ever heard is about a boy and the star fish. Basically, it is about a man, a poet wandering along the beach. He sees something which turns out to be someone moving quickly along the beach....picking something up and throwing it to the ocean... I'm sure some of you have heard of this. Well, as the man approached the boy, he asked him what he was doing. The boy replied that he was throwing starfish into the Ocean. The man asked why, the boy replied that if he did not the fish would die from the heat of the afternoon sun. The man replied that there were thousands of starfish along the beach "What difference could you make!" The boy looked at the man....picked up a starfish and threw it to the ocean and said "It made a difference to that one". Empowerment ,often, is fueled by the feeling that one can make a difference , no matter how small and no matter how formidable the world is. Once we loose sight of our own "power" to make a difference.............then we just begin to walk by and let too many starfish die............... Worse still, we pretend we didn't see them.
