Milk Paint
Evaporated milk
Food coloring
Divide one or more cans of evaporated milk evenly among several containers. Add a few drops of different color of food coloring to each container and mix until the desired shades are achieved. Have youngsters paint with this mixture on construction paper to create a creamy pastel look.
Borax/ Powdered Milk Paint
2 T. borax
½ cup warm water
¼ cup powdered nonfat milk
dry tempera paint
Dissolve the borax in warm water. Add powdered milk. Stir until completely dissolved. This should be a thick creamy mixture. To use, place a small amount of the medium on the palette and mix in the tempera. This dries to a semi-gloss finish. To clean brushes use soap and water. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several weeks.
Powdered Milk Paint
½ cup powdered nonfat milk
½ cup water
dry tempera
Mix milk and water. Stir until dissolved. Combine only as much medium with temper as needed. You may mix right on the palette. This paint dries quickly to a glossy, opaque finish. It is chip resistant. Clean up with soap and water. Store in a tightly covered jar in the refrigerator for several weeks.
