Gingerbread Ornaments

Only for decoration- do not eat!


Gingerbread dough
¾ cup applesauce
1 package unflavored gelatin
1 jar (1.9 oz.) cinnamon
¼ cup cornstarch
3 T. ground cloves
Combine applesauce and gelatin in small saucepan, let stand 3 minutes. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until just simmering. Remove from heat. Combine cinnamon, cornstarch and cloves in a bowl. Stir in applesauce mixture. Turn out onto counter, knead a few times. Divide dough in half, wrap each in plastic wrap. Use within 30 minutes. Roll out between sheets of plastic wrap to ¼" thickness. Cut out using 2" cutters. Use straw to cut out holes for hanging. Reroll scraps; repeat cutting and drying as above Dry on wire rack overnight. String on ribbon or twine.
Gingerbread Dough
½ cup cinnamon
½ cup applesauce
Slowly mix Roll out mixture ¼" thick between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. Remove top sheet and cut with cookie cutters. Poke a hole near the top. Air dry for at least 24 hours, then decorate with puff paint. Glue on button and ribbon.

Cinnamon dough
1 cup cinnamon
1 T. ground cloves
1 T. ground nutmeg
¾ cup applesauce (drain in a strainer for several hours)
2 T. white glue
Mix cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg together. Add applesauce and glue. Work mixture with hands until smooth. Roll out to ¼ inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Use a straw to make a hole for ribbon. Place on wire rack and air dry for several days, making sure to turn occasionally.
