"And he really expected me to believe
that! What a
dork," said Billy to his little gang of friends."Yeah, what a dork! I knew
your little brother was pretty dumb, but I never thought he would make up
something like that! How could someone
as cool as you get stuck with a dunce like him?"
"Dunno, Dave. He cant even bench press a hundred and thirty. Now hes
talkin about going off to be a Pokémon trainer. All hes got to fight with is
that pathetic Staryu. Ill whoop him with my Hitmonlee any day. Huh, so he says he
saw Mew..." Quickly conspiring, Billy and the gang turned and headed toward Billys house. They
couldnt wait to see what Mr. Twilight would say when he heard Nicks tale.
As the gang entered the kitchen, they overheard Nick talking to his dad. Billy
immediately spun around
and sneaked back into hall, unseen. The whole gang crouched down and listened to
hear Nick tell his story.
"So you were out in that storm last night, son? Why did you go out there?
Didnt you know that those winds could have spawned tornadoes? Son, it was almost a
hurricane! What were you thinking?" asked Mr. Twilight, very concerned.
"Im really not sure, Dad. Something drew me out there. I had to go. I felt -
I dont know how to say it. It was as if I heard a... I cant describe
it. But I
had to go, Dad," said Nick looking up at his father. "I felt
something; I could almost hear him..."
"Hear who? Your not making any sense! Someone told you to walk out into the rain?
There was no one here but me and you!" exclaimed Mr. Twilight,
struggling to understand his
son. Why did these things always happen to Nick? Mr. Twilight had long
thought that something was special about him; there had always been those
little happenings, those tiny insights, hinting that Nick was not, quite,
normal... Nick had something Mr. Twilight had seen in no one
else. He sometimes, just knew things.
"No, I didnt hear it -- I told you, I can't describe
it.. I just
knew he was there."
"And then you saw the Mew?"
"Yes, Dad, then I saw him," answered Nick, his thoughts
wandering. Nick closed eyes to escape the kitchen, and he was suddenly
back outside, the night before...
At that moment, an explosion of laughter erupted from the hallway. Billy couldnt
repress it any longer. He practically fell into to the room, grabbing a counter for
support.
"Whoohoo! Did you hear that! Dad, listen to him! Hes hilarious!" cried
Billy, shaking with laughter. The rest of the gang came in right behind him, laughing
and
exclaiming things like, "What a wimp!" and "You were right, Bill! Hes
a total joke!"
Nick was stung. It wasnt fair -- this was none of their business! Why were they
always on his case? And did no one believe him? These thoughts rushed through Nicks head
as he raced out of the room, furious. What a wimp.. Nick
flitted through the hallway and up the spiral
staircase to his room. He's a total joke!
The boys laughter had settled it for Nick. Nick had made his
decision. He was leaving! Leaving Westwood and starting his journey. When he had become a
pokémon master, then maybe someone would take him seriously. Taking a few deep
breaths, Nick snatched his backpack and his pokéball and started back down the stairs.
