Laurens County, Georgia is located in Central Georgia, and is our state's third largest county by land size, with 812.6 square miles. Laurens county's population totals 42,405, with an average per square mile population of 52.18. We have approximately 16,500 homes, with a median value on the homes of $46,500. There are 1,570.44 miles of roads for public safety and emergency medical teams to travel. Dublin, which has a paid city fire department, is our largest city, with a population of 17,966. This leaves 24,439 people living in rural areas. This is where the Laurens County Rural Fire Defense enters the picture. We're made up of 13 volunteer fire departments, each with their own chief, along with an Emergency Response Team consisting of members from the departments and other public safety members. The Laurens County Rural Fire Defense as a whole also has a chief to oversee the activities of the departments. We currently have about 150 members. Since we are volunteers, this number fluctuates constantly due to stress and amount of time involved. Each department meets at least twice a month. To be a member you are required to take and pass Basic Firefighting 101, which certifies you as a FireFighter 1 in the state of Georgia. Also offered is a First Responder course. Since we are a rural area we do more than put out fires. Often we are called to farm accidents, vehicle accidents, to assist with victims of physical domestic abuse, deliver babies, to assist victims of severe weather, and many other medical related instances. If you are a member of any of these departments and would like to have information linked from your department's name below (names and/or number of members, number of trucks, pictures of your department, a page about your department, or anything else I haven't thought of) or would like to praise/criticize this page click on the e-mail link at the bottom of the page and tell me about it. If you're criticizing, please be nice. }:-)
